"Gimme your gum and gimme your gloss,"
said little Gimme Gaby
And we'd give her our gum and give her out gloss
'cause she just thought she was the boss
"You should gimme your brand new hat
and that necklace you got from your mom"
"You should gimme the pretty princess crown your sister wore at the prom"
"Gimme your cute green gloves"
"Gimme your earmuffs too,"
and gimme your soft scarf, I love that color blue"
I gave Gimme Gabby my new jacket
and my new purse my mom just bought me at the mall
and no matter what I gave Gimme Gabby
she never had it all
Little jeweled bracelets
shining pinks and blue
flip-flops, plastic crocs, boots and every shoe
She kept these things inside her closet
and stuffed under her bed
We never got back a single token
no matter what we said
Gimme Gaby had so much stuff
that it piled up to the door
it piled up to her window
you couldn't even see her bedroom floor
We don't play with Gimme Gabby anymore
because we have nothing left for her to take
being friends with Gimme Gabby
was surely a mistake
We do see Gimme Gabby
every now and then
She lost the one thing I wanted to give her
The chance to be my friend

"Out of Order"
- Poetry Machine
I started the poetry machine
and what a scene
She kicked up quick with a start
The pen it flew,
the brain it knew,
and the words were warming in its heart
But then I heard a "hiss," a "pop,"
the first heard of its kind
"She's usually tuned so fine," I shrugged,
"however will I rhyme?"
She seized up on me,
just quite right upon the spot
a cloud of hope up in smoke,
and one concluding "plop."
A part that had been safely secured,
had spun off of the side
My shoulders sunk below my heart,
the big machine had died
The rhythm and pattern
rolled off the end of my desk
spilled onto my shoe, the floor, a goo,
"Look at all this mess!"
I spent some time breathing
in the devastation at the scene
"Alone without my poems" I thought
"Whatever would this mean?"
Anyways, the wreckage site was all messed up,
my words were scattered throughout the place
a broken cup, a bruise, a cut,
I had ink smears halfway across my face
"Oh pitiful world," I spat!
"Oh sorrowful me," I cried.
Whatever does this mean?" I plead.
"Without my poems I'll die."
"Shall I never poem
ever again?
Is this the great and terrible end?"
And then, just then
the answer sprang to me
"Oh it's not broken, I just need a new pen."

OMG COOKIES!
OMG,
I love these cookies
with the sprinkles sparkling on the top
if there weren't a limit
I don't think I'd ever stop
I'd pack'em up and eat'em all
until they bake some more
I'd eat'em off the cookie sheet
I'd eat'em off the floor
I'd eat'em whole
I'd eat'em slow
I'd eat'em quick
...
Ugh, I think I made myself sick
I love these cookies
with the sprinkles sparkling on the top
if there weren't a limit
I don't think I'd ever stop
I'd pack'em up and eat'em all
until they bake some more
I'd eat'em off the cookie sheet
I'd eat'em off the floor
I'd eat'em whole
I'd eat'em slow
I'd eat'em quick

Do you know where my hat is...
Dang, I lost my hat
has anyone seen my hat
it has a white logo on the front
and a black one on the back
I gotta find it
I just need to know where it's at
You don't understand
I don't go anywhere without my hat
Maybe I left it in the car
or maybe it's at school
It couldn't have gotten too far
I don't know what I'm gunna do
Well, that's my luck
I guess I'll wear this one instead
Oh, there's my hat
I must have left it on my head
Toymonster
There’s a monster
There’s a monster
Who eats stuff in the night
Plastic toys of little boys
The scene is out of sight
I don't know where it came from
But I swear to you it’s true
He eats only toys
Only toys
What ever shall we do
Dinosaurs and toys from stores, and all toys on the floor
He’ll eat’em all
eat’em all
and then come back for more
He’ll eat your army guys of every size
Your race cars and your truck
Your bathtub toys and your trunks
And even your rubber ducks
He’ll eat it all from off the floor
From off the floor he’ll eat’em
Beware my boys
For the toys
For the toys you know you need’em
Your car collection and kung-fu fighters
He’ll eat’em for a snack
Pack’em up
Pack’em up
Or else he’s coming back
And then of course for his main course
He’ll eat your video game
He’ll eat’em all
He’ll eat’em all
It’ll never be the same
And for dessert
Yes, for dessert he’ll get your where it hurts
He’ll eat your bat he’ll eat your ball
He’ll eat your shoes, he’ll eat your shirts
He’ll destroy every single toy that is left out on the floor
And wait,
Oh yes,
he’ll wait for the chance to come back for more
So all boys
We meet tonight to do what’s right
And I’m sure for some it’s tough
We must clean our rooms
Clean our rooms
Before it eats our stuff
There’s a monster
Who eats stuff in the night
Plastic toys of little boys
The scene is out of sight
I don't know where it came from

Such a looong rideWe've been in this van forever
whenever will it quit my throat is dry and I'm not sure why but I think I'm feeling sick I've seen all our movies back to back to back to back I drank every juice box in the sack and snacked on every snack I desperately need a pit stop we've been driving for almost a week I fear my end is near I've become part of the seat Oh boy, I found my toy some paper and a bunch of colored pens I used'em all one by one and lost them all again I've played for days and drew a picture I found where we live on a map sang a song forever long and I've taken like 50 naps We have to stop We have to stop Please, why don't you see Something bad will happen surely If we don't stop somewhere to pee Ooops, it's not my fault I warned you once or twice We should've stopped We should've stopped and taken my advice Well, I've warmed up now and it's time again for another nap If you need me you know where I'll be I'm back here in the back. |
I found one by the front porch
I have every frog that a boy could ever need
As I've been collecting them Since I was a small boy of three I have frogs with long legs That like riding bikes And frogs with little backpacks That like taking hikes I have spotted little yellow ones From the African trees They kroke and sing With the breeze from the seas I have two bullfrogs dressed as grand royal kings With all sorts of silver and little golden rings I have tennis playing froggies With safely padded knees And confused looking frogs That squeak when they’re squeezed |
I have scary horned frogs
That come with a gun When you walk past them They grumble, Your day is done I even have one Dressed as a clown That I won playing a game When the carnival was in town But of all these toys There’s just one more that I wish I could have But I just have to ask My mom and my dad I dream about it and how great I would feel If only I had a frog, a frog that were real |
Birds' Song
One bird sitting high upon it’s bowing branch
Began whistling a tune to which only it could dance The tune was merry and elegant, a lyrical parade But no other bird could dance to this tune, they had all flown away It had a sweet unique chirp unlike any ever heard Perhaps by chance it was a lonely song from a lonely little bird But it kept on dancing to its own little song Without a care in the world, like nothing was wrong Though the other birds took flight, got up and went Our single soprano kept singing, kept singing one hundred percent He eventually stopped dancing, stopped singing too For it was truly alone with nothing to do Then just when its little head sank down to its chest Because no other bird in the tree could be found with a nest In flew just one, just one little bird And looked around for what it had heard Then the two started chirping and sang chorus as one For a party of two birds dancing in one tree had begun |
Awake the Day
I have a magic chair that lies
in the corner of my room
Whenever I get bored I sit
And bing, bang, boom, - I’m on the moon
Eating lunch with mini me’s
And climbing clum clum trees like chimpanzees
But the moon doesn’t grow trees silly
So then these clum clum trees, they turn to bees
They fly from the moon, past the sun, and dance with the comets
They recite poems: haikus, couplets, ballads, and sonnets
We laugh and play till the break of day
Until finally something jumps in my lap
Who better to be woken from my nap than from my cat.

Fishing for Friends
For reasons sometimes I feel like a fish Floating around in the fabulous sea At last I cast a fabulous wish Fishing for friendship company For the day has already come Where \we’re swimming on each side of the sea With you over on one coast And the other coast over by me |
We’ve traveled together to places so far
And discovered oceans unknown I thought as long as we never travel apart We will never be fishes alone |
Fish words cannot describe the feeling inside For the absence of my fish friend But there’ll be other tries to which we’ll oblige And this distance will come to an end Someday we’ll meet in the sunlight along a long beach And tell stories again of places we’ve been For time does not separate a distance to reach Because when fish are friends they’re friends till the end |
A Man With a Cane
Man With a Cane
An old man walking with a cane
He had no fits and no shame
“Why is this,” I said to the old man walking with a cane
“I never take anything for granted
I just go with the flow and see where the world will take me
Anyways what is old?
Isn’t that just an opinion?
For maybe I am young in my eyes
So you see, there is always someone older than me
And I use that as an excuse to go on with my life
I really don’t think about it
I never look back just move on forward
This is why I have no fits and no shame
I am just a young man with a cane”
